크리스천 로비그룹 뉴질랜드 패밀리퍼스트에서 마약 반대 캠페인을 시작했다.

 

패밀리퍼스트는 정부 지원을 받는 Drug Foundation과 언론매체 등의 단체들이 마약 관련 법률 자유화를 추진하고 있다며 마약 반대 캠페인을 시작했다.

 

여기에는 마리화나뿐만 아니라 헤로인, 코카인, 엑스터시, LSD 등의 마약 또한 포함되기에, 패밀리퍼스트는 이러한 사항들이 뉴질랜드 가정들에게 제대로 알려져야 할 필요성을 느꼈다고 한다.

 

이에 패밀리퍼스트는 ‘SayNopeToDope.org.nz’이라는 마약 반대 캠페인 웹사이트를 개설했다.

 

이 웹사이트에서는 최근 연구자료 및 마약 관련 소식, 패밀리퍼스트 언론기사, 해외 사례 등의 정보가 제공되며, 이름을 올릴 수 있는 온라인 청원서 또한 있다.

 

패밀리퍼스트는 “우리가 공중 보건, 공공 안전 및 청소년들에 대해 관심을 갖는다면, 마리화나를 비범죄화(decriminalise)하려는 아주 작은 시도 또한 잘못된 것이며, 정부는 그 약의 불법 상태를 유지해야 한다”고 전했다.

 

또한 “약물 복용은 범죄임과 동시에 우리의 건강과 관련된 문제이며, 형사상의 제재가 제대로 이루어지지 않고 있기에 모든 법률을 폐기해야 한다는 주장은 잘못된 이분법적 생각이며, 교육과 건강적인 측면에만 집중해야 한다”며 “강도질, 도둑질, 마약류 P(메탐페타민)에 대한 치안 유지 활동 또한 돈이 드는데, '절도에 대한 전쟁'이나 'P와의 전쟁'이 실패했기 때문에 이 또한 비범죄화 해야 하는가?”라고 주장했다.

 

패밀리퍼스트는 또한 담배 가격은 올리고, 흡연 구역을 제한하고 있는 상황인데, 마리화나의 지지자들은 여전히 마리화나는 ‘무해하다’는 담배에 대해서도 오랫동안 가졌던 동일한 환상을 갖고 있다며 이는 매우 아이러니한 일이라고 주장했다.

 

하지만 패밀리퍼스트는 CBD오일(마리화나 성분의 의약품)을 의사가 처방하도록 허용하는 정부의 접근법이나, 중증환자를 위한 마리화나 성분의 비흡연식 주입방법 및 프로그램에 대한 연구에 대해서는 지지하는 바라고 밝혔다.

 

패밀리퍼스트는 또한 “최근 몇 년 사이에는 미국의 몇 몇 주(states)에서 레크리에이션 목적으로 마리화나를 합법화했다. 이는 수년간 의약품으로써 마리화나를 합법적으로 접근을 하여 이루어졌다. 이러한 전환이 뉴질랜드에서도 예상되는 이유는 대마초를 약으로 홍보함으로써 대마초의 이미지를 바꾸는 것이 강력하기 때문이다”라며 대마초를 의약품으로 허가하려는 움직임에 대해 우려를 표했다.

 

“이미지의 변화는 집단 의식을 형성하게 되고 사람들은 점점 다르게 생각하기 시작하는데, 이는 점차적으로 의학적인 패러다임이 마약류의 해로움에 대한 강한 증거까지도 따라잡을 수 있게 한다.”

THE WEBSITE TO HELP YOU IN THE DEBATE...

 

As government-funded lobby groups like the Drug Foundation and the media try to push for a liberalising of drug laws (not just marijuana but also drugs such as heroin, cocaine, ecstasy, and LSD!!), it's vital that families are informed about the issue.

 

That's why we've just launched our new website dedicated to this issue. SayNopeToDope.org.nz has the latest research, news items, Family First media releases, and also links to other overseas websites also opposing the liberalisation of drugs such as marijuana. There's also an online Petition you can put your name to.

 

Any hint of decriminalising marijuana is the wrong path if we care about public health, public safety, and about our young people, and the government should maintain the drug’s illegal status.

 

Drug use is both a criminal and a health issue. There is a false dichotomy that criminal sanctions apparently haven’t worked so we should ditch them all together and we should focus only on education and health initiatives. We should maintain both. Policing burglary, theft and the drug P also costs money – should we decriminalise these also because the ‘war on burglary’ or the 'war on P' is failing?

 

It is ironic that at the same time as we tear the labelling off cigarette packets, price them out of existence, and ban them from being smoked within breathing space of any living creature, supporters of marijuana are peddling the same myths that we believed for far too long about tobacco – that marijuana is harmless.

 

Supporters of decriminalisation would have us believe that cannabis is a gentle, harmless substance that gives users little more than a sense of mellow euphoria and hurts no one else.

 

But growers want to sell marijuana with increased potency because it’s more addictive. With increased potency comes increased health risks, greater likelihood of addiction, and the potential gateway in to other and often more harmful drugs.

 

Decriminalising marijuana is the wrong path if we care about public health and public safety, and about our young people. We will then start sending the message that marijuana isn’t that big a deal and that adults got the ‘say no to drugs’ message wrong.

 

The grass is not always greener.

 

However, Family First is supporting the government's approach of allowing CBD oil to be prescribed by doctors, further quality research into the components of the marijuana plant for delivery via non-smoked forms, and the establishment of a programme that allows seriously ill patients to obtain other non-smoked components of marijuana approved and listed by the Ministry of Health via their doctor.

 

In recent years, several US states have legalised marijuana for recreational purposes.  This has happened after many years of legal access to marijuana as medicine in those same states. The reason the transition was anticipated is because changing the image of cannabis by promoting it as medicine is powerful.

 

There doesn’t need to be much nuance in the idea that medicines are good and abstracted from that nasty business of “illicit drugs”.  The latter wreck lives whereas the former heal people.

 

The image change gets into the collective consciousness and people start to think differently, gradually allowing a medical paradigm to overtake even strong contrary evidence of harm."
